DataHub WebView Makes High-Quality Web HMI Accessible to All

A fusion of two innovative technologies yields a powerful, easy-to-use web-based HMI with unlimited connections for under $3,000.

August 2, 2011 - Software Toolbox now offers unlimited data and client connections to DataHub® WebView, which merges Microsoft® Silverlight® technology with the Cogent DataHub's real-time data integration platform to create a high-performance, user-friendly, web-based HMI. Solving the problems of speed, graphics quality, and high-priced client connections, DataHub WebView rivals traditional desktop HMI applications, without their limitations.

"This is capable of handling thousands of different data points, updating anywhere from 10 to 50 times per second in the web browser, supporting a system where you've got computers that are countries apart," said Ken Collins, Cogent's Architect and Lead Developer for DataHub WebView in a recent interview with Pete Brown on Microsoft's Channel 9.

"The display and editor are all Silverlight," Ken continued, "which makes it easy to build controls that represent real-world environments. The graphic quality and scalability of the controls is phenomenal. Even though it runs in a browser, the WebView editor gives a complete editing environment with toolbars, menu systems, and tabbed controls. Our clients don't have to install something, and then 'publish' it for the web. The design surface is part of the app. You just navigate to the URL and away you go."

"Having worked with multiple manufacturing and utilities customers in the past, I can see how the DataHub WebView tool would be extremely useful in coming up with easy-to-use, real-time status monitoring and control systems that would assist instead of getting in the way," said Mike Bazarewsky, Microsoft Certified Trainer and Senior Consultant.

Backing up the Silverlight-based web interface is the Cogent DataHub, which provides real-time connectivity between embedded hardware, factory-floor systems, and management applications. "We have spent more than 15 years refining the underlying DataHub technology, and this investment in time and effort has allowed us to bring our web HMI product to market in record time," said Andrew Thomas, President of Cogent Real-Time Systems.

Leveraging Microsoft's .NET-based Silverlight platform and the Cogent DataHub back-end leads to cost savings that can be passed directly on to the consumer. The patent-pending technology enables hundreds of simultaneous data and client connections in a highly efficient manner for virtually unlimited connectivity. At the same time, the use of Silverlight tools has accelerated the development of the DataHub WebView interface. As a result, Cogent can now offer a high performance, full featured web HMI providing unlimited data and client connections for under $3000.

Software Toolbox Launches Cogent DataHub V7

Cogent reintroduces its widely popular OPC DataHub as the Cogent DataHub, with new capabilities including trending, historian, redundancy and a web-based HMI.

January 31, 2011 - Cogent Real-Time Systems announces the release of Cogent DataHub® Version 7, based on the well-known OPC DataHub® and Cascade DataHub® technologies. The Cogent DataHub includes several powerful new features such as a graphical trend display, a real-time historian, support for redundancy, and a web-based HMI for editing and displaying graphical interface screens from any location. This new functionality will strengthen the Cogent DataHub's position in industrial markets, while opening new opportunities for embedded applications and financial systems.

"Engineers and system integrators now have a complete, integrated package for connecting and using their real-time data," said Andrew Thomas, President of Cogent Real-Time Systems. "The Cogent DataHub combines the data connectivity and integration power of the OPC DataHub with an all-new web interface, DataHub WebView, to give automation professionals what they need--quick, reliable, and useful access to their process data."

"This new version of the DataHub is a significant leap forward in technology," said John Weber, President of Software Toolbox, Cogent's Sales and Technical Partner for North America. "No other product provides so many capabilties for connecting, integrating and using data in such a robust, flexible manner."

The Cogent DataHub builds on the success of the OPC DataHub, which offers OPC tunnelling, bridging, and connectivity to databases, Excel, and the web. The new features of the Cogent DataHub include the ability to switch between redundant OPC servers, to store real-time histories of millions of data changes per second, and to display trend graphs of data points in real time. This new version also includes the first release of DataHub WebView.

DataHub WebView is a rich Internet application for designing and delivering high-quality, real-time displays. All page editing is done in a standard web browser, such as Internet Explorer, and page updates can be automatically published as soon as changes are saved. Page designers have access to standard controls, gauges, and 4,000 industry-standard symbols, which can be easily configured to recognize condition states and graphically notify operators of process status and anomalies. All controls feature powerful, "anything-to-anything" data binding.

"With DataHub WebView and the other new features, the Cogent DataHub is well-positioned to enter the embedded market," said Mr. Thomas. "Working with our technical partners, we have developed a way to make direct TCP connections from a variety of embedded operating systems to the Cogent DataHub. Now the data from a wide range of devices can now be logged to a database, manipulated in a spreadsheet, or displayed in a web browser."

The Cogent DataHub provides quick, reliable, and secure access to valuable information direct from industrial processes or embedded systems. It is an integrated tool that can present live process data directly on an engineer's or manager's desk in a form most suitable: database, spreadsheet, or web page. It supports data networking, historical archiving, and redundancy, and has a built-in scripting language and free API to meet virtually any requirement for real-time data connectivity.

Software Toolbox Named Master Distributor for OPC DataHub in North America

Cogent Real-Time Systems announces the appointment of Software Toolbox as the North American master distributor for their industry-leading OPC DataHub software product.

December 1, 2006 – Matthews, NC. Cogent Real-Time Systems and Software Toolbox, Inc. have agreed on a sales, distribution, and support plan for Cogent's OPC DataHub and related software. Effective December 1, 2006, Software Toolbox will become the Master Distributor of the OPC DataHub for North America. As one of the many activities the partners will engage in, Software Toolbox Inc. is building a focused portal for OPC DataHub on it's extensive website at www.softwaretoolbox.com/cogentdatahub.

"We are very pleased to be working with Software Toolbox" said Andrew Thomas, president of Cogent Real-Time Systems. "They are the leading vendor of third party products in the OPC market, are very technically knowledgeable about OPC, and have a reputation for offering outstanding customer service and support. We are confident that the team at Software Toolbox will provide excellent representation for the OPC DataHub in the North American market."

"Cogent's commitment to OPC interoperability and certification meets the high standards we set for our diverse client base," said John Weber, President of Software Toolbox. "At the 2006 OPC Interoperability workshops, where the OPC DataHub was thoroughly tested with Software Toolbox's existing OPC server and client products, we gained a high level of confidence in the quality of the OPC DataHub."

The OPC DataHub connects live data to a wide range of clients over a network or Internet connection, using technology that was first developed for highly embedded systems, where speed and reliability are mission critical. The OPC DataHub is a single tool for OPC tunnelling, bridging, and aggregation, as well as for connecting OPC servers to Excel, ODBC databases, Linux, and the web.

"The OPC DataHub is unique," said Mr. Weber. "We currently offer many OPC-related products, but there has never been a tool available that integrates all this functionality into one easy-to-use package. We foresee a strong interest in every segment of the market. Anyone using an OPC Server or client that we offer will want to find out how the OPC DataHub can enhance their information solutions."
