OPC A&E support
The OPC A&E support within the Cogent DataHub allows it to act as an aggregator and tunneller for alarms and events. The DataHub doesn't generate the alarms and events itself; it reads them from installed OPC A&E servers (See the TOP Server A&E Plug-in for generating alarms and event messages). The DataHub acts as an A&E client program to bring data into the DataHub, where it can be used by any other licensed DataHub features or any other client program connected to the DataHub. The DataHub can also act as an A&E server to offer the aggregated data to an A&E client program. The DataHub can tunnel the A&E data and make it available to A&E clients on remote network computers securely and without remote DCOM.
OPC A&E to DA conversion
The Cogent DataHub can also convert from OPC A&E to OPC DA, which allows you to use the A&E data in a non-A&E client program. For example, you could show A&E data in an HMI program using a simple DA conversion. The OPC DA client program can even acknowledge the alarms through the DA interface even though the underlying systems is an A&E server.
OPC A&E history
OPC A&E servers do not usually store history, but the Cogent DataHub will store a small amount of history (up to 20 events) for recent events in addition to sharing the current status of those alarms.
You use the Configure OPC A&E Server settings, shown here, to control how you want the DataHub A&E Client features to behave. This rich feature set gives you many options including letting you connect OPC DA Client to this A&E Server information.
