What Does IntraVUE Do for the IT Professional ?
Why is this not just some other application I have to support ?
IntraVUE is not designed to take over the job of an IT Professional - in fact it should make your job easier for
the reasons outlined below. IntraVUE's ability to help the control engineer solve their own network problems may even reduce your support burden as an IT Professional.
It is important to understand that IntraVUE™ is a good tool for having simple problems (connections and end device support) handled by the controls group. IntraVUE does not write or configure the network infrastructure equipment. There is good probability that switches and Ethernet devices will be distributed and placed in electrical enclosures. This hostile area can cause basic connection problems easily handled by the controls department.
As a basic support tool for the plant floor it has the ability to be remotely accessed. This 24X7 monitoring system
with the ability to visualize network connections and changes, allows users to monitor activities on the plant floor and communicate with personnel without having to be at the
factory.
IntraVUE™ can provide valuable information to several departments responsible for the network
support. The local plant floor personnel can easily solve basic connection or reset issues based on
close proximity to the affected equipment. Most IT staff may not be interested in these problems; but
may want to interface with the control group on other issues, this package makes for a good
common tool for both. The real world depiction of current state also provides a good look at the
relationship between devices and the infrastructure connecting them. Bandwidth problems can be solved by simply moving devices to more appropriate locations.
OEMs or outsource service providers (which several companies have used for network service) can
have the ability to remotely manage the network and interconnected devices.
