Imagine the following scenarios:
  • Your North Boiler #1 has just gone critical
  • Your shrink wrap machine has faulted for the 3rd time today.
  • You have just manufactured your 10,000th cardboard carton.

Where are you?  You are relaxing on the beach, halfway around the world, and you know all of this information because your server just sent this data in a text message to your cell phone.  This is all possible with the new OmniServer Version 2.6.

Email or Text Message Any OmniServer Item Data

With the new E-Mail Wedge that is part of OmniServer Professional Edition V2.6, you can receive key updates about how your system is performing wherever you have e-mail access or your cell phone.

New Test Devices to Help with Development and Testing

We have included two new test devices to help you when developing your protocols and client connections:  the RANDOM device and the ECHO device.

The RANDOM device, when paired with the CLIENT_TEST sample protocol, is an excellent tool for testing your client application with OmniServer, as it provides you with sample items with random values without having to connect to an actual device.

The ECHO device is an excellent tool for use while you are developing your own OmniServer protocol, since it echoes any data sent by your protocol back to OmniServer, where it can be viewed in the I/O Monitor.  This helps you see byte for byte what you are transmitting.

Full Support Added for Microsoft© Windows Vista©, Including Running as a Service

OmniServer V2.6 will include full support on the latest OS offering from Microsoft, maximizing the range of supported operating systems to enhance your ability to upgrade your systems.  This support includes the ability to run a a service on Windows Vista.  Add this to existing support for XP, 2000, and Windows Server 2003 and you’ve got a great solution.

Increased Object Capacity for larger applications

With OmniServer V2.6, the previous object count limitation of 512 objects is a thing of the past.

With the new OmniServer, you can configure up to 2000 objects, taking advantage of the advances in processing and memory technology present in today’s more sophisticated machines.  (An object, as defined in terms of OmniServer, is a configured topic, protocol or wedge.)

This enhancement means you can now do even larger projects with more devices than ever before with OmniServer.

Enhanced Diagnostic and Protocol Testing Tools

The latest OmniServer has improved diagnostics functions with increased and user configurable Event Logger buffer capacity.  You can now log up to 999 Kb of events in the event logger.  Default is 64Kb but you can configure it as shown below.

BufferSize

Usage of fixed-pitch fonts makes for improved diagnostic data readability throughout OmniServer.

Improvements to the I/O Monitor make it easier to tell where the byte offsets are and to separate from the raw device data and the ASCII interpretation of the data, which speeds troublehooting of your protocol configurations.

IO_Monitor_Data_Display2

Added to that, is a second OPC Test Client with extensive additional functionality for testing your OmniServer Protocol and Configuration.
