What is OPC A&E?
OPC A&E stands for OPC Alarms and Events. This specification was designed with the specific intent of sending alarm and event notifications on demand. This could be when an Emergency-Stop button is hit, when the temperature of a machine breaks a certain threshold, or when there is a leak detected in a valve.
OPC A&E clients specify which events from an OPC A&E server they are interested in, and the server will send them notifications whenever these events occur.
Using the OPC Data Client, you can subscribe to all (or some) of the events in an OPC A&E server:
In the case of subscriptions, an event will be fired in your code to notify you that the server has sent a notification. It will be necessary to write an event handler to handle these events properly. Look at our code samples to find an example of handing events properly.
