OPC Data Logger Adds Support for OPC Unified Architecture (UA)

Software Toolbox is proud to announce the newest release of the OPC Data Logger V3.5.0.34, which includes new connectivity support for OPC Unified Architecture (UA) Servers. OPC UA is the OPC Foundation's newest standard that offers a secure and reliable common communication protocol between applications. The main benefit of OPC UA is that, unlike the OPC DA specification, this technology is not reliant on Microsoft's COM/DCOM layer. With support for the OPC UA standard now integrated into the OPC DataLogger, logging data from remote servers becomes even easier by making DCOM configuration headaches a thing of the past.

Using the OPC Data Logger along with one of OPC UA Servers, like our TOP Server or OmniServer,  can provide you with a complete OPC UA solution for your device connectivity and data logging needs.

OPC Data Logger Upgrades:

Users of the OPC Data Logger 2.0 can upgrade to the new version. Please contact us for information on how to upgrade.

Revision History:

December 17, 2010 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.34

  • Enhanced: Added support for OPC UA.

July 7, 2010 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.33

  • Enhanced: Rebuilt application so it is compatible with 64 bit operating systems.
  • Modified: Added an option to skip doing GetItemID calls on branches when browsing. Certain OPC Servers return errors causing Data Logger to not browse properly.
  • Modified: Changed the 'Connection Control' tab in the Project properties window. Now the Data Logger attempts to reconnect to the OPC Server after 10 seconds.
  • Enhanced: Added a config file setting "CommandTimeout" that will set the timeout on stored procedures. It is measured in seconds and the default is 30 seconds.
  • Modified: When text files are set to close after every log, a file IO exception will no longer cause logging to stop. Instead, the file open will be retried after a certain amount of time.
  • Modified: The “time until logging is retried” is now adjustable with a config file setting "DataStorageRetryTime" set in ms. The default is 10000 ms.

August 27, 2009 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.26

  • Enhanced: Added a config file setting "MonitoredItemScanRate" for the user to change the scan rate used for monitored item triggers. The default is 250ms.
  • Enhanced: *.datalogger files can be opened by right-clicking on the file and choosing DataLogger.exe as the executable
  • Enhanced: User Defined Name column is now included in the import/export of Data Logger csv files.
  • Fixed: Sometimes trace messages were too big to fit in the event log. Made it so that stack traces are only added to errors when their trace switch is set to VERBOSE.
  • Fixed: Problems using stored procedures with ODBC. There's still a gotcha though: make sure that detail mode parameters are listed in the same order that they are defined in the stored procedure.

August 13, 2009 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.24

  • Fixed: Problems using stored procedures with ODBC. Make sure that detail mode parameters are listed in the same order that they are defined in the stored procedure.
  • Enhanced: User Defined Name column is now included in the import/export of Data Logger csv files.

May 21, 2009 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.20

  • New Feature: Data Logger can now write values to the server based on certain conditions.
  • Fixed: SQLServer type float (64 bit floating point) was mapped to .NET System.Single (32 bit floating point). Now it maps to .NET System.Double.
  • Fixed: Oracle data stores will now attempt to reconnect when receiving any type of bad connection error.
  • Fixed: Problem where exceptions were happening if a server Prog Id was null or an empty string.

Jan 14, 2009 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.15

  • Fixed: Cleaned up some of the exception handling in ODBC.
  • Modified: Added support for special characters in SQLServer column names:
  • '.', ' ', '~', '!', '%', '^', '&', '(', ')', '-', '{', '}', '\'', '.', '\\', '`'
  • Modified: Simplified the database mapping process:
    • Rows are added automatically based on the selected presentation.
    • The user only has to fill in the first column. (The database field column)
    • Took out the 'Remove' and 'Add' buttons.
    • Added a 'Reset' button that clears out the database field selections.
    • Added a 'Auto-fill' button that will fill in the database fields in the order that they are defined.
    • Fixed the mapping validation so that it is not required when opening a previously validated setup.
  • Modified: Table mode logging timestamp has been changed so that it represents the time that the data was received from the server instead of the time that it was sent to the DB.
  • Modified: Wizards will now automatically advance to the next tab in cases where the user has chosen to build an object.
  • Modified: The 'Start/Stop Logging' is now referred to as the 'Start/Stop Runtime'. 'Runtime started' means that the Data Logger is active and CAPABLE of logging data. It was confusing before because 'Start Logging' did not necessarily mean that data was being logged.
  • Modified: Changed 'Simple Name' to 'UserDefinedName' in the Items list. This is consistent with the way that it is named in other parts of the application.
  • Enhancement: Access, MySQL, SQLServer, and Oracle plugins. On the 'Storage' tab of the database property page, there is now a button for auto-building a table.
  • Enhancement: Double-clicking in groups list control and triggers list controls now functions the same as clicking 'Properties' button.
  • Enhancement: Groups are now visible under their respective Projects in the tree view.
  • Enhancement: Double-clicking in item browser adds selection to the list of items to be added.
  • Enhancement: Added some more date formats. The choices are 'Universal sortable' and 'RFC 1123 Format'. Both of these settings will automatically convert to GMT time.
  • Enhancement: Added choice to prepend the spanning value to the beginning of the filename.
  • Enhancement: The tree view will display a 'Click to add...' node for necessary objects that have not yet been created (Collector, Storage, Presentation, and Project). Clicking the node will open the proper wizard.

Nov 20, 2008 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.9

  • Added powerful new scheduler trigger that leverages the power of the Windows Scheduler service.

Jun 9, 2008 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.4

  • Upgraded MySQL plugin to use the latest drivers provided by the MySql organization.

April 7, 2008 OPC Data Logger 3.5.0.1

  • OPC DataLogger has now passed the rigorous OPC Foundation Independent Certification Test Labs test! These tests are designed to insure that OPC client products are reliable and interoperate well with other OPC products.
  • Enhancement: Tracing can now be configured using Tools-->Options-->Trace Switch Collection
  • Enhancement: Trace messages are now saved in the Windows Event Log, so they can be retrieved whenever DataLogger is started or by doing a refresh on the event log.  Windows Event Log size can be set from DataLogger by going to Tools--->Options-->Maximum Event Log size.  The # of events to reload on startup or refresh is user configurable under Tools-->Options-->Number of Events to Reload
  • Enhancement: User now has control over how much data to buffer in memory if a connection to a remote database has gone down.  Buffer size is set using Tools-->Options-->Internal Buffer Size
  • Enhancement: Improved OPC error reporting.
  • Version 3.5.0.1 rolls in all patches and enhancements since Version 3.0. v
