The Rotated Text Wizard allows the user to draw text at any angle within WindowMaker. Included are options for height, angle, bold, italic, underline, and the choice of two fonts.
Differences Between Rotated Text and Normal InTouch Text
The text created with this wizard is actually composed of InTouch polylines and
polygons. This creates one significant limitation on its animation: Rotated text cannot be used for an analog or string value display. In other words, the characters that are
displayed cannot be changed using animation links. However, common animation links (discrete color, visibility, blink, etc.) are supported.
Simple vs. Arial Font
The two fonts available, Simple and Arial, were hand-crafted specifically for the InTouch
drawing environment. They are not True Type fonts, and that is why only two are available.
Simple
The Simple font is composed entirely of lines. This font is faster-drawing and more efficient than Arial. It also looks
better at small sizes (6-18 point) than Arial. When Bold is selected, the text is actually drawn with two-pixel wide polylines rather than one-pixel wide polylines.
Arial
The Arial font is composed entirely of polygons. This font is more complex and slower to draw than Simple, but
looks better at larger sizes (18+ point) since it is filled and has width. When Bold is not selected, the text is drawn with polygons that have no line. This can cause
some thin lines to disappear at very small sizes. When Bold is selected, the text is drawn with polygons that have a one-pixel wide line. This font was designed to
match the Arial True Type font as closely as possible.
What About Other Fonts ?
These two fonts were chosen since they lend themselves very well to the InTouch drawing environment in that the characters
are quite straight and squared off. Other fonts that consist mainly of curved lines, such as Times New Roman, would be very difficult to create and slow to draw in InTouch.
