Product Summary
Use this runtime free ActiveX control when you want to control PLC Direct DL200 or DL400 series I/O racks over ethernet directly without any PLC CPU in the rack. Works with Visual Basic and Visual C++. If you need to talk to a PLC CPU via Ethernet, get our PLC Direct ECOM ActiveX control instead.

This ActiveX control allows you to easily write Windows 95,98,NT, and Windows 2000 applications that communicate via Ethernet with a PLC Direct Ethernet I/O systems that use their EBC Ethernet IO control modules and DL200 or DL400 series I/O.
The control handles all the communication protocol and allows you to retrieve data by setting simple properties and methods and monitoring events. With the EBC control, you write all your PLC logic in Visual Basic (or any other ActiveX compatible language). No ladder logic is required. Response times can be as low as 1 millisecond on fast PCs. The control comes with full documentation in print and in an online help file as well as the sample program shown above and the accompanying VB5 commented source code for the sample program.
Key Features
- Designed using latest Microsoft ATL ActiveX technology. ATL (Active Template Library) allows very fast small sized ActiveX controls without dependency on large DLLs such as MFC. Can be used in any ActiveX container application such as Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft Excel, Borland Delphi, etc.
- Multi-threaded application allows the control to scan the ethernet I/O at exceptionally fast rates while still maintaining system responsiveness.
- Very fast Ethernet communications, PLC inputs and outputs are continuously scanned in as low as 1 millisecond per IO scan.
- Connect to as many as 32 EBC modules on an Ethernet network, supports both IPX and UDP/IP protocols.
- Configurable Ethernet I/O scan rate from "as fast as possible" on up in millisecond increments.
- Read or write PLC IO, including analog modules, by setting a few properties and calling the ReadData or WriteData methods - it is as simple as that. All your PLC logic is written in Visual Basic eliminating messy ladder logic software. If you are a Visual Basic programmer working with PLCs and you do not want to learn or do not like to use ladder logic then this is for you!
- Bit read or write allows reading individual PLC inputs (X) or reading and writing outputs (Y).
- Bit writing automatically changes only the output you specify in a single transaction. No messy reading, masking and writing back is required - it is all handled for you. For example, you can write statements like this in Visual Basic - If X(0) And Not X(10) Then Y(39) = True
- Inputs (X) and outputs (Y) addresses are mapped automatically by EBC module address when using multiple EBC modules. This in effect makes the network of PLC module IO look like a single large PLC.
- OnInputChange event occurs when any input changes and gives you the EBC address, the PLC slot, and the value of the input word that changed to allow for processing by exception.
- OnPLCError event occurs if there are any errors and gives you the error number, the EBC address, and the slot that caused the error.
- Multiple instances of control can talk to the same or different EBC modules from single or multiple applications.
- Automatically detects all EBC modules on the network when the transport is opened.
- Allows writing non-volatile EBC setup parameters, such as IP address, Name, Description, Node ID, and host timeout parameter.
- Helper methods allow shifting data left or right, getting high or low words from longs, and checking individual bits in a value for On or Off.
- Works with Windows 95,98,NT, and 2000.
Hardware Requirements
- This control is intended to be used in applications where you want your PC to control I/O directly without a PLC CPU in the rack. If you need a control to talk to an Ethernet module that is in a rack with a PLC CPU present, then you need our PLC Direct ECOM ActiveX control.
- To use this control, you will need to have an H2-EBC, H2-EBC-F, H4-EBC, or H4-EBC-F Ethernet based control module and the appropriate DL205 or DL405 series rack and I/O modules and documentation from PLC Direct/Koyo.
Licensing The control is licensed for development purposes on a per machine basis. You may distribute runtimes of the control with your custom compiled application without purchasing any runtime licenses. Call if you are creating an "off-the-shelf" HMI package wherein the user will have development access to this ActiveX for licensing terms for those types of applications.
