The Alarm Designer provides alarm display, alarm acknowledgement, alarm sound, and alarm logging capabilities. Dynamic high and low alarm limits are supported for recipe-type applications. Best of all, the Alarm Designer gives you full access to your Think& Do project tagname database so you can simply choose the tags you want to alarm. You can even control the actions of the alarm display system right from your flowcharts.

All for only $100 per copy -- with a 30 day money back guarantee!

Alarm Acknowledgement

  • Alarms can be acknowledged individually or as a group using Alarm Display menu commands or function keys.
  • All alarms can be acknowledged by setting the value of a tag in Think & Do.
  • The system can be configured to automatically acknowledge alarms as they return to normal, without operator intervention.

Alarm Display

  • Using the Alarm Display, the user can view either current alarms or alarm history.
  • Current alarms are color-coded according to alarm state: ALARM=red, ACK´ED=yellow, and NORMAL=green.
  • The Alarm Display contains the following fields: Timestamp (YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm:ss); Message (Tagname or custom message); Value (Value of tag); Limit (Limit that was exceeded to cause the alarm); State (State of the alarm tag: NORMAL, ACK´ED, ALARM (LOW), ALARM (HIGH), ALARM (ON), ALARM (OFF)); and Priority (A priority from 1-9)

Alarm Limits

  • Alarm high and low limits can be designated as hard-coded values (e.g. "1.3"), or as the current value of a user-selected tag (e.g. "C-4 My Counter"). This allows for dynamic alarm limits, which can be very useful in recipe applications.

Alarm Logging

  • All alarm-related activity is logged to the hard drive, with timestamps.
  • Each alarm log file contains the following fields: Timestamp (YYYY/MM/DD hh:mm:ss); Message (Tagname or custom message); Value (Value of tag); Limit (Limit that was exceeded to cause the alarm); State (State of the alarm tag: NORMAL, ACK´ED, ALARM (LOW), ALARM (HIGH), ALARM (ON), ALARM (OFF)); and Priority (A priority from 1-9)
  • Alarm logging can be enabled or disabled in Alarm Designer
  • The Alarm Display allows the user to select and view any alarm log at runtime.
  • A new alarm log file is generated at least every day. The length of each log can be configured as 24 hours, 12 hours, 8 hours, 6 hours, 4 hours, 3 hours, 2 hours, or 1 hour. The starting time for new logs can be configured to be any hour of the day.
  • The user can select the root directory for the alarm logging.
  • In Alarm Display, the user can record a comment into the alarm log. User is prompted with a dialog box that lets him type in a string of text, which will be timestamped and added to the alarm log.
  • Any Think & Do tag can be configured as an event tag. Event tags are logged to the hard drive whenever their value changes. An event deadband can be configured to prevent nuisance logging.
  • Each alarm log file is stored in CSV format, which is an ASCII format that can be read by spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel.
  • Each different month of alarm logs is automatically placed in a separate directory.

Alarm Messages

  • The default message for each alarm is the tagname itself. If desired, a custom message can be entered, which is displayed instead of the tagname in the "Message" column of the Alarm Display and the alarm log.

Alarm Types

  • Each alarm tag can be configured as one of the following types: Low, High, High/Low, When On, When Off, and Event.

Deadbands

  • A deadband can be assigned to each alarm tag to prevent nuisance alarms from a fluctuating signal.
  • A deadband can be assigned to each event tag to prevent nuisance logging due to a fluctuating signal.

Disabling Alarms

  • Individual alarms can be disabled from Alarm Designer.

Editing

  • When configuring tags in Alarm Designer, rows can be deleted, inserted, copied, and pasted.
  • A "Fill Down" feature allows the user to quickly set the value of many cells at the same time. This behaves like the Excel "Fill Down" feature.

Event Logging

  • Any Think & Do tag can be configured as an event tag. Event tags are logged to the hard drive whenever their value changes. An event deadband can be configured to prevent nuisance logging.

Importing Tags

  • User can import tags from an existing Think & Do project in one bulk operation to save time.
  • User can select an individual tag from an existing Think & Do project, thus reducing the chances of a misspelled tagname.

Integration with Think & Do

  • The user can configure the polling interval (the rate at which the Alarm Display communicates with the Think & Do runtime). Default is 100 msec.
  • User can acknowledge all alarms by setting the value of a user-specified tag at runtime.
  • User can specify a tag that will be set to one whenever there is a new alarm.
  • The Alarm Display can be configured to become the active window whenever a new alarm occurs.
  • The Alarm Display can be configured to become the active window whenever a user-specified TND tag goes true.
  • Alarm Display can be configured to be "Always On Top".
  • The initial position of the Alarm Display can be configured to be one of seven different positions, including full screen and the bottom third of the screen.
  • The Alarm Display can be configured so that it cannot be closed if TNDRT is running a project.

Multi-Level Alarming

  • The same tagname can be associated with more than one alarm, to allow multi-level alarming with different priority levels.

Printing

  • The list of current alarms can be printed from the Alarm Display.
  • Any alarm log can be printed from the Alarm Display.
  • A list of alarm tags and their parameters can be printed from the Alarm Designer.

Sound

  • An alarm sound plays when there is at least one unacknowledged alarm.
  • Alarm sounds can be configured to be enabled or disabled.
  • User can pick an alarm sound from nine choices (Two High Beeps, Two Low Beeps, Three Beeps, Four High Beeps, Bloop, Buzzer, Red Alert, Pleasant, and Loser). Each sound can be previewed in Alarm Designer.
  • User can set the alarm sound repeat interval. Default is three seconds.

Startup Wizard

  • A Startup Wizard can be used to guide the user through the process of choosing a Think & Do project and importing alarm tags.

System Requirements

  • Think & Do Software version 4.4 or higher
  • Windows NT 4.0
  • 1 MB hard disk space
