We've provided you with a variety of information here about the security measures we take to help answer your questions.

Why is Software Toolbox Safe ? - Click to Verify our Security with Verisign

  • Safe Technology - Our secure servers use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology.  SSL is the industry standard and among the best legal and commercially available software for online commerce. It encrypts all of your information during your order transaction, including name, address, and credit card information so that it cannot be read by anyone as it travels over the Internet. We utilize the services of Verisign for our SSL security. Our site SSL security uses the Verisign Extended Validation Certificates that feature 2048 bit encryption and extra validation of our business by Verisign.
  • Security Policies- We have internal policies that govern who has access to our web farm. Multiple levels of authentication are required in order to gain access to servers and to gain access to data on those servers. Passwords for sensitive data are changed regularly.
  • We don't keep what we don't need- When you purchase online with Software Toolbox, we do NOT retain any credit card number information. Your encrypted data is passed on to the bank and we never see it again. We believe the best protection for your credit card data is for us to not keep it at all. This means we do not implement "one click" buying like some big stores do, but that's a choice we make to protect you as our first priority.
  • Safety in numbers - thousands of users from around the world have bought software with Software Toolbox without credit card fraud

How do I know if my web browser is secure ?

If you are using a current web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Chrome, or Safari, then your transactions are fully encrypted and secure when you shop at Software Toolbox. Earlier versions of these browsers may require upgrades as we use the most powerful encryption legally possible for Global use at this time.  Run the secure test page to check your browser.  The tools you need to be secure are free and built-into your browser!. If you are using a relay or a proxy server, then this may not always be true -- so how can you tell if your link is secure ?

When you are on our order checkout page, encryption is enabled. This is the only place your credit card number is transmitted, and this area is setup on our server to be secure. In other areas of our site where you may be browsing the catalog, encryption is not enabled as your private information is not being transmitted, and to encrypt these public pages would slow down our transmission and your receipt of those pages.

You can test your browser by going to our secure test page - This test page is provided by Thawte, a division of Verisign, one of the most trusted name in secure encyrption certificates. This page will advise if your browser needs to be upgraded to insure maximum security of your information. If your browser does not pass the checks, then we suggest then that you fax your order to us at +1-704-849-6388 or call us at +1-704-849-2773 to place your order.

Our Safe Shopping Gaurantee

While we have high confidence that your number will not and cannot be stolen, in the United States, under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50.00 of fraudulent charges. If for any reason your bank does decide to hold you liable for that $50, then Software Toolbox will cover that $50, provided the unauthorized use of your card occurred through no fault of your own while ordering through our secure server.  In the event of unauthorized use of your card, you must notify your bank in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.

So, What is a "secure link" ?

A secure link means that your browser will automatically encrypt (encode) any data that is sent across the link. Electronic encryption codes are generally quite difficult to break.

Some perspective is useful. When you call and place an order by phone to a mail order merchant, you are giving your credit card # to an unknown person in an unknown place and using a highly insecure analog phone line. If you're using a cordless phone or an analog cellular phone, your risk is even worse!

On the internet, theoretically, a person on your local area network (at home, business or school), a person at your ISP (internet service provider), the destination (our) ISP, or any ISP in between could listen in and try to get the card number. However, to do this the person would have to break into your ISP's networks and most importantly, they'd have to spend the time to decode the encrypted card # -- the decoding keys are held only by you and by Software Toolbox. Actually, it takes both of us! - We don't know all of your secret key and you don't have all of ours -- we each keep a "private" key that no one else ever sees!

When you buy online with Software Toolbox, you are sending to a known entity in a known place, Thawte and Verisign assure you of that with their program. Click Here to Verify Our Identity With Thawte
